Aerial Drone LiDAR & Mapping Services

Survey-grade mapping for large, complex environments. Capture accurate 3D data across corridors, infrastructure, and municipal projects.

Survey-Grade LiDAR Mapping for Infrastructure, Utilities, and Municipal Projects

When projects span large areas, difficult terrain, or long infrastructure corridors, traditional ground-based survey methods can become time-consuming, expensive, and difficult to deploy. Engineering and utility teams often face limited site access, extended field time, and gaps in data that can impact design accuracy and project timelines.

Aerial drone LiDAR services use UAV-mounted laser sensors to capture highly accurate 3D data of terrain, vegetation, and infrastructure. They deliver centimeter-level precision and are widely used for corridor mapping, topographic surveys, and infrastructure projects.

This approach allows engineering teams to reduce field time, improve data reliability, and collect consistent information across large or hard-to-access areas, helping projects move forward with greater confidence.

Drone LiDAR uses laser scanning sensors mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles to measure terrain, infrastructure, and vegetation. These sensors emit thousands of laser pulses per second and record the returning signals to generate dense point clouds that represent real-world conditions with high precision.

The resulting data can be used to produce terrain models, corridor mapping datasets, and detailed infrastructure documentation used for topographic mapping, utility corridor mapping, and infrastructure LiDAR surveys by engineers, planners, and asset managers.

Built for Corridor and Large Area Mapping

Drone-based aerial LiDAR is particularly effective for pipeline corridors, transmission corridors, and transportation infrastructure mapping. Traditional survey methods may require large field crews, traffic control, or multiple mobilizations across long distances. Aerial LiDAR significantly reduces field exposure while delivering consistent coverage across the entire project area.

High-Performance UAV LiDAR Technology

Our drone-based UAV LiDAR mapping solutions are delivered using the DJI Matrice platform equipped with a long-range LiDAR sensor and dual high-resolution RGB imaging systems.

This professional UAV configuration combines range, resolution, and positioning accuracy to support engineering-grade mapping.

With a LiDAR range of up to 950 metres and dual 100MP cameras, we can efficiently capture large-scale aerial mapping data. The system can cover up to 100 square kilometres per day while maintaining vertical accuracy under 3 centimetres and a 3 cm ground sample distance at 300 metres altitude.

In Canadian environments where weather can limit traditional survey methods, the platform can operate in temperatures down to -20°C, allowing projects to continue during colder months when other technologies may not be practical.

This combination of range, accuracy, and operational flexibility allows us to support corridor mapping, roadway documentation, industrial sites, and large-scale topographic surveys without the cost and logistical complexity of aircraft-based LiDAR systems.

From Data Capture to Data Insight

Capturing a point cloud is only the beginning. The real value of LiDAR lies in how the data is processed, interpreted, and delivered.

Eagle provides LiDAR data processing services including point cloud classification, GIS data extraction, and spatial analysis to transform raw LiDAR data into information that engineers and planners can use. Depending on project requirements, we can deliver georeferenced point clouds, digital elevation models, terrain models, surface classifications, road cross-sections, contour mapping, and infrastructure feature extraction.

Some organizations require raw data for internal workflows, while others require fully processed datasets ready for engineering or design. We tailor our deliverables to your project needs, so the information arrives ready for use.

Eagle also provides data extraction, classification, and spatial analysis services to ensure your LiDAR data supports real engineering decisions.

Eagle delivers:

  • Clean georeferenced point clouds in .las or .laz format
  • Digital elevation models including DEM, DTM, and DSM
  • Surface classification for ground, vegetation, and infrastructure
  • Road geometry extraction and cross-sections
  • Contours, volumes, and terrain modelling
  • Utility and asset feature extraction
  • Deliverables structured for CAD, GIS, and BIM platforms

Whether you need raw data for internal processing or a fully interpreted dataset ready for design, we align outputs to your workflow.

Optional Integration with Terrestrial and Mobile LiDAR

Many projects can be completed efficiently using drone-based aerial LiDAR alone. However, some environments benefit from additional ground-level detail.

When required, we supplement aerial capture with mobile mapping LiDAR systems and ground-based laser scanning services. This approach is particularly useful for capturing detailed roadway geometry, intersections, substations, structures, and complex site conditions.

Our team evaluates accuracy requirements, scope, and budget before recommending the most appropriate capture strategy. The goal is not to overscope a project but to ensure the final dataset supports its intended use.

Drone LiDAR Services FAQ

What are aerial drone LiDAR services?

Aerial drone LiDAR services use UAV-mounted laser scanning systems to capture high-resolution 3D data of terrain, infrastructure, and large project areas. These services are commonly used for mapping, surveying, and engineering applications where accuracy, speed, and coverage are critical.

Drone LiDAR services provide high-accuracy 3D laser scanning using UAV-mounted sensors to map terrain, vegetation, and infrastructure. They deliver centimeter-level precision and are commonly used for corridor mapping, topographic surveys, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Drone LiDAR is ideal for projects involving large areas, long corridors, or difficult terrain where traditional ground surveys are time-consuming or unsafe. It allows teams to collect accurate data faster, reduce fieldwork, and improve overall project efficiency.

Drone LiDAR services are used for aerial mapping, topographic surveys, corridor mapping, and infrastructure planning. They are commonly applied in utility corridor mapping, transportation projects, telecom network design, and large-area site surveys where accurate 3D data is required.

Drone-based LiDAR mapping can achieve vertical accuracy of 2–3 centimetres when properly calibrated and processed. This level of precision makes aerial drone LiDAR suitable for engineering design, topographic surveys, and corridor mapping projects where reliable data is critical.

Aerial LiDAR refers to data collected from airborne platforms such as planes or drones, while drone LiDAR specifically uses unmanned aerial vehicles. Drone LiDAR offers faster deployment, lower costs, and greater flexibility, making it ideal for corridor mapping and medium-scale projects compared to traditional aircraft-based LiDAR.

Yes, drone LiDAR can capture terrain beneath vegetation. LiDAR sensors emit laser pulses that penetrate gaps in tree canopies, allowing multiple returns that measure both vegetation and ground surfaces. This makes it highly effective for mapping forested or heavily vegetated areas.

Drone LiDAR surveys typically deliver georeferenced point clouds, digital elevation models (DEM, DTM, DSM), terrain models, contour maps, and classified surfaces. Data can also be provided in CAD, GIS, or BIM-ready formats depending on project requirements.
